Our mission

Cyber SMART pioneers a multidisciplinary approach to cybersecurity research that integrates computer science with social, economic, behavioral, and cognitive sciences. This unique methodology produces solutions that are not only technically sound but also legally and operationally effective from the outset.

The name “SMART” reflects the five core elements covered in all our research:

Our growth

Since its establishment at Georgetown in 2019, Cyber SMART has expanded to include:

• University of Notre Dame (2021)
• Virginia Tech (2024)
• University of Technology Sydney (2024, international site)

In 2021, the Center was formally accredited as an IUCRC by the National Science Foundation, receiving a $1 million grant to expand its multidisciplinary cyber research capacity.

As an Industry-University Collaborative Research Center, Cyber SMART works directly with private and public sector organizations to address real-world needs.
